Do you find yourself wanting to knit but do not know what type of knitting yarn would work best for you and your endeavor
? Here’s a quick review of what the type knitting yarns that are available in the market, as well as the different types of knitting wool.
Yarns for knitting can be made from a lot of naturally-produced materials, including plant fibers (i.e. cotton, flax, hemp, jute, ramie, etc.) and animal fur (i.e. alpaca, cashmere, llama, etc.). It can also be made from synthetic materials like acrylic and polyester. Among these materials, the wool—a term most often used to refer to sheep fur, although it can also be used to indicate animal fur in general—is considered the most popular amongst knitters because of its qualities.
The knitting wool is easy to work with as it is very elastic; it is thick and warm; and it can also be used for felting (a technique used for joining woolen fibers). It is much harder to clean though, and some people can develop allergies from using it. But those things aside, the wool can be spun using a combination of fibers to produce a variety of yarns, which can then be used to make different kinds of crafts. For example, the alpaca fleece (a material almost similar to sheep wool) can be blended with a small proportion of silk. Also, the Merino wool, which is also obtained from animal fur, can be blended with Egyptian cotton to produce long and fine fibers most favored by knitting enthusiasts.
