If you know anything about fashion, you will know that leather jackets were back with a bang in 2008, but we have to ask ourselves, will the one fashion style that has lasted for decades, still be as popular in 2009? Leather jackets of all colour, shape and size seem to have been popular in 2008 from black, to brown to red to even purple in some extreme cases - we know, purple leather isn’t our thing either.

Leather Jackets in general are extremely practical and pretty much go with anything - that’s part of the reason they have survived the past 5 decades. The leather jacket has often been associated with certain social groups such as bikers, aviators, rock stars and metal heads - but, particularly over the past 10 years, leather jackets have been accepted as a major fashion garment by most social groups, fashion houses and individuals alike.

Of course, leather jackets that are designed for fashion purposes differ greatly to those designed with safety in mind - for example, motorcycle use / riding. Fashion / stylish jackets tend to be much thinner and are made with design in mind as opposed to safety where is biker jackets are the complete opposite, often composed of much thicker leather.

Whatever their usage, we can’t imagine them going anywhere anytime soon. Any apparel that has survived the past 50 years isn’t going to go anywhere overnight. If we had to offer any tips it would be to buy something that fits well (over sized and slim fit leather fashions change quickly) and don’t go too extreme on the colouring. A good quality leather jacket should be looked on as an investment.
